This topic is widely presented throughout the 1096 documents distributed in nine volumes of the work suggestively entitled „From the pains of Bihor – Pages from the struggle of Bihor’s Intelligentsia for the Preservation of Romanian Faith, School and National Science – 1901 to 1914”. The authors of the volumes, Priest John Popovich, PhD., Bujor Dulgau and Pr. Dr. John – Mircea Ghitea, selected and arranged with great care and professionalism documents from the years 1901-1914, capturing all the social, educational, cultural, religious and political problems that Romanians faced in Bihor and, in fact, all over Transylvania during the dualist Austro-Hungarian Empire. In what follows I will elaborate on some of these issues in this conference. At the beginning of the twentieth century the fight for the defense of national spirit starts to deepen, along with the social and national liberation of the Romanians in Transylvania that takes different forms. The social contradictions between rich and poor are sharpening, workers engage in many strikes, which are coupled in parallel to the poor peasants’ harvest strikes which, according to their goal, are true local uprisings such as the ones in Talpos and Alesd in Bihor county but also in other towns in the neighboring counties of Satu-Mare, Salaj, Timis and Arad between 1901-1905…
